8/10 CRUSHED FUCKING SKULLS
Why a bigger label hasn't snapped this record up, I cannot guess. It's completely worthy of a wider release. This is solid 1990s style death metal played with skill and conviction, with a few tricks up the sleeve. The vocals remind me a bit of Mikael from the original Bloodbath lineup - and in fact, this album itself reminds me of an Americanized Bloodbath. The production is perfect, and all the instruments are audible and engineered well. The solos are fantastic when they appear, and are always a perfect length, and I would expect the band may lean into more of these in the future - it's a strength. This is very easy to listen to for some reason, probably the smooth production I mentioned. There is one surprise on the album, and it's the melodic section of "Ontological Shock." There are guitar harmonies and keys, and they're very well done, and keep with the morbid atmosphere of the record. They quickly get back to pounding us, however. This is a hidden gem of a record, and well worth your time seeking it out.
