BADASS SHORT DESCRIPTION: Fast blasting claustrophobic death!
Chordoma, I think, is trying to get the speed demons of the year award for this record. It's fast as fuck. The drumming is relentless and talented, just like the guitars. The vocals breathe more, but only because the vocalist has to. It's probably more reliant on the blast beat than Gorgasm, which is saying something. The songs almost sound the same, but I think it's more an issue of the corner they've painted themselves into at the speed they're playing. Nonetheless, it's fuckin' impressive.
The guitars are tuned way the fuck down, possibly even to Mortician levels (earlier material, anyway). This gives the guitars a certain tone that instantly sets this particular band apart from other brutal death metal acts. The manly death metal vocals emanating from the singer give no mercy, nor ask any. The whole record is just completely brutal, with no room for air at all.
When the gravity blast hit in the fourth song, "Regurgitated; Misconstrued," I was pleased this song was the first to feature it - we here at Ominous Vomit like songs about regurgitation, obviously. Except for the final track, "Suspensory Ligament Ejection," this is the most unique song on the album, and it shines from start to finish. This record definitely grows on you like a foul tumor, and I notice more things that escaped me upon further listens. There's a lot to miss at near grindcore speed, you can bet on that.
For fans of relentlessly brutal blasting death metal, I don't think you can go wrong here. Even though I'd like to see more variations in the song, they pull off the vicious speed so well that they could do just as well to make it their "thing." I wouldn't be surprised, or disappointed, if they did.
