This is Revolting's 9th studio effort (spearheaded by the mighty Rogga Johansson - he of the million bands), and admittedly I was surprised, since I had fallen off from following the band closely, as sometimes happens. I was pleased to hear they're still spewing the same disgusting horror-obsessed Swedish death metal that they always have. One new trick, and I'm not sure how old this trick is now (I have to catch up on their back catalog), is that in between the more brutal Swedish styled riffs, there are almost Finnish-style melodies overtop some of the parts. Think Left Hand Path-era Entombed alternating with Tales of the Thousand Lakes-era Amorphis.
The drums fall into a bit of a punk beat coma once in a while, and it seems like it's autopilot. They could use a bit more variation in the riffs and beats, for sure. But that doesn't disqualify this record in my eyes. There are some excellent moments on here, where the more brutal riffs shine through and take over, and all the melodies are brilliantly played. The songwriting is almost traditional verse/chorus/verse style writing, and that makes for memorable songs even with the autopilot drumming.
