7/10 CRUSHED FUCKING SKULLS

Coffin Rot plays 1990s style death metal that sticks firmly to the mid-paced realm except for short sections of blastbeats. There's some Autopsy and Massacre influence at work here, but it's melded with a groove-oriented approach that keeps them sounding original. The grooves almost remind me of old Grave, galloping and heavy. The vocals are the strongest part of this release, with powerful death growls and a deep, rich tone.  I could listen to this for the vocals alone. We finally get a fast track on "Unmarked Shallow Graves" and "Living Cremation" and they're a welcome break from all the mid-paced death metal. Overall, this is better than average stuff and your money could buy much worse things. They do get bonus cool points for having the Blind Dead on the cover art. I love those movies.
