If you didn't already know, this is the project of Mark Riddick, a name you should know if you've been around this music for a while. As it turns out, he's not only a gifted artist, but also a gifted musician, having played all the instruments on this record aside from the vocals. This is fairly unique death metal - I do hear some nods to perhaps Edge of Sanity's early material, or Demigod, and maybe Incantation in the slower passages. The vocals are cloying and cavernous and they're way out in front of the instruments, so much so they distort at times. There's also a lot of atmosphere here, with synths (I think, perhaps it's guitar effects) and atmospheric guitar textures making an appearance in several songs. If your tastes run to the more macabre end of the death metal spectrum, you could do worse than grabbing this.
